Knowing Konnyaku and Its Uses
Derived from the konjac potato, konnyaku is a jelly-like material whose lack of taste might surprise first-timers. Though plain konnyaku has a very faint taste, its enchantment is found in its capacity to absorb other flavors. Celebrated not only for its health advantages but also for its adaptability in Japanese cooking, konnyaku is remarkably low in calories with about 97% water and 3% fiber.
Daikon's Versatility
A mainstay of many Japanese meals, daikon is a radish with a long, thin white root. Its uses range greatly; from stewed to pickled and shredded, it is a valued ingredient in many different dishes. Daikon's mild yet clearly sharp taste accentuates the neutral konnyaku, therefore producing a meal with rich taste and texture.
